يتمحور موضوع هذا الكتاب حول المُقاربة النصّيّة في توجّهاتها المختلفة، والتي ترسّخ حضورها في المشهد النقدي الغربي، بما يقتضيه ذلك من تناول للمقتضيات النظرية التي تحكمت في صياغة أجهزتها الإجرائية ومفاهيمها الرئيسة.
وقد حصر المؤلف مجال دراسته في النظريات النصيّة التي اكتسبت مشروعية لافتة للنظر على المستوى الأكاديمي، والتي أثّرت على نحو حاسم في تناول قضايا النصّ ومشكلاته مع تلمّس الخلفيات الإبستيمية التي اعتُمِدَت في بناء متاحها الفكري والمعرفي، وضبط الحدود التي تتحرّك داخلها، وما يعتورها من ثغرات، ومن قصور على مستوى التطبيق، وبخاصّة على مستوى مقاربة النصّ الأدبي.
ويتميّز هذا الكتاب بأهمّية بالغة من حيث توجّهه العامّ؛ حيث لا يكتفي بعرض الخطوط الكبرى للنظريات النصّيّة فحسب، بل يعمل أيضاً على نقدها وفق تصوّر له إقتضاءاته النظرية الخاصّة به.
ويتبيّن ذلك من خلال السِّجال النقدي الذي يُقيمه الكتاب مع التصوّرات النصّيّة التي يتناولها بالدرس والتحليل، ومن خلال الإقتراحات التي يُسهم بها في تعميق السؤال حول قضايا النصّ ومشكلاته.
ويعدّ الكتاب إستمراراً لتوجّه المؤلف في محاورة الفكر النقدي الغربي إنطلاقاً من داخل سياقه المعرفي والنظري بعيداً عن كلّ نزعة إنكفائية أو تمركز ثقافي هويّاتي.
