"استغرب التلاميذ هتاف معلمهم، ثم استغرقوا جميعاً في الضحك، عندها رفع المعلم رسم مصطفى، ليراه أترابه، فلم يكن هتافهم أقل صدى من هتاف معلمهم. المعلم أنت رسام الصف يا مصطفى، أريدك أن تزين جدرانه برسومك. أحس مصطفى بفرح عظيم، لأن رسومه حظيت بإعجاب معلمه، ورغبته في الاطلاع عليها، وعرضها أمام زائري المدرسة. حين رأى المعلم رسوم مصطفى على جدران الصف الأربعة، ازداد إيماناً بموهبته الواعدة، وصمم على تشجيعها ورعايتها، فأثنى عليها أمام أهل الثقافة والفن، وعرض على مصطفى نشر رسومه في مجلة "المصور"، لقاء مبالغ تشجيعية من المال، وأكد لتلميذه، أن العلم وحده ينمّي هذه الموهبة، ويفتح لها سبل النجاح، مردداً دائماً "هل يستوى الذين يعلمون، واللذين لا يعلمون".
"المواهب المبكرة" هو العنوان العام للسلسلة القصصية التي أعدها "الياس سميا" والتي يتحدث فيها عن عدد من الرسامين والأدباء والشعراء الموهوبين الذين أغنوا الأدب والفن بعدد من المؤلفات والرسومات الفنية الهامة والتي دخلت فيما بعد لائحة أشهر ما كتب وما رسم في التاريخ. "ومصطفى فروخ" هو واحد من سلسلة الرسامين الذين تحدث المؤلف من حياتهم وحقيقة اكتشافهم كمواهب فذة، وهو من قصته هذه يرسم صوراً نثرية لبعض ما رسمه "مصطفى فروخ" في صغره وشبابه بريشته وأقلامه التلوين، وهدفه اطلاع القراءة من الناشئة على أهم الشخصيات الفذة التي لعبت دوراً هاماً في الفن والأدب، وليحقق هدفه ساق تفاصيل قصة بأسلوب سهل مبسط يغلب عليه الطابع التعليمي، كما وأضاف في خاتمة كل قصة مجموعة من الأسئلة والتمارين التطبيقية التي تدور حول السيرة الكاملة التي يتحدث عنها في كل قصة.
