هذا الكتاب قدم فيه مؤلفه تقويماً علمياً لكتاب "الكتاب والقرآن" لمؤلفه محمد شحرور، وهي ملاحظات أوردها على القرآن الكريم، تناولها في أربعة أبواب رئيسية. يعتبر الدكتور محمد فريز منفيخي أن ما جاء في الكتاب لا يعبر عن مضمونه، كما لاحظ أن الكتاب وعلى امتداد صفحاته لم يرد فيه هامش واحد يشير إلى المراجع التي اعتمدت من قبل المؤلف. إضافة إلى أن الموضوعات المدروسة في الكتاب لا يجمع بينها أي رابط وهي مزيج من موضوعات فلسفية ومادية مزجت بشكل تعسفي.
وقد استخلص الدكتور منفيخي أن مؤلف الكتاب خرج عما يفرضه الالتزام بالقيم الإسلامية في كتابه، ففي معرض تناوله لشخصية الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم يظهر المؤلف "أنه يؤمن بأن محمداً نبي ويحبه ويحترمه ويقدره لذلك فقط، أما حركته في شرح وتطبيق الإسلام، وبناء دولته والدعوة إليه، وتربية النفوس على الإسلام، فلا دخل له بها". إذ أن أي شخص يمكنه أن يفعل ما فعله النبي، وهذا برأي منفيخي مخالف لأساسيات الإيمان لدى أي مسلم.
وعلى ضوء ما أورده مؤلف الكتاب يستنتج منفيخي أن المؤلف يقرر أنه قام في كتابه بعملية اختراق الفقه الإسلامي الموروث وأعطى بديلاً له في كتابه وهو أيضاً أشار إلى أن المؤلف يعتقد أن فهم آيات الله مرحلي أي أن ما يفهم من كلام الله في مرحلة ما قد لا ينطبق على مرحلة أخرى.
