الحديثة من أقدم مدن العراق، وعدّها مؤرخون وغيرهم قبل آلاف السنين قلب جنة عدن العليا، وهي قضاء في محافظة الأنبار غربي العراق.
هذا الكتاب يعني الحديث عن الإنسان والمكان في فترة زمنية عشتها في الأوائل الأربعينيات وتتناول ما سمعته عن فترة زمنية أبعد تصل إلى العشرينات من القرن الماضي، فالإنسان، هو الحديثي ابن المدينة، والحديثي القروي الذي عاش في القرى التابعة إلى حديثة، أما الزمان فيفترض أن أتحدث عن فترات تاريخية تمتد إلى ما قبل الإسلام.
ولا بد من القول أن هذا الكتاب ينصب على مدينة الحديثة برقعتها الجغرافية المعروفة وعلى من نشأ فيها من أهلها، ولا يشمل تجمعات الحديثيين الأفاضل في مدن أخرى ممن نزح أجدادهم إليها وترعرعوا فيها وبنوا عشائر ذات مكانة مؤثرة، لكنهم مع ذلك لم ينسوا جذورهم ولم ينقطعوا عن أصولهم وحافظوا على صلات رحمهم مع أهلهم وذويهم ونسبهم وأقاربهم في المدينة الأم.
ومن وحي ذكريات الكاتب في هذه المدينة يذكر: "كنت اصطادُ السمك مع أصدقائي في كثير من شواطئ الحديثة بالوسائل المألوفة مثل النتالة والشكّف والشبكة وحبوب الزهر، وكنا نفرح كثيراً بما نحصل عليه حتى لو كان بضع أسماك صغيرة، ولم يكن الباعث للصيد أي رغبة في النفع المادي، بل كان للتسلية والمتعة البريئة وقضاء الوقت بصبحة الأصدقاء، وللترويح عن النفس بما هو جميل ومنعش ومن صميم بيئتنا الزاخرة بكل الطيبات، لم يكن يخطر بال أحد في ذلك الزمن الجميل أن يلجأ البعض إلى إستخدام وسائل الصيد الجائرة التي شاعت مع الأسف بعد السبعينيات من القرن الماضي.
