يضم هذا الكتاب مجموع مقالات أعدها "عبد الرحيم حسن محمد حربي" تدور حول عملية التغيير والإصلاح في المجتمع الإسلامي.
يقول الأستاذ "عبد الرحيم حسن محمد حربي" في معرض تقديمه للكتاب: " .. كثر الحديث عن الإصلاح والإصلاحيين، والمجددين والمحافظين، والكل متفق على الإصلاح، والكل مختلف على الآليات، فمن متدرع بالخصوصيات ومن خائف من الأدوات أن تكون بإملاء من قوى خارجية، وبجرعات قوية، أو بوسائل عسكرية ...".
وعلى هذا فالحل برأيه بمزيد من الصبر وقبول تحدي التغيير السلمي المتدرج، وإن كان بطيئاً، وأن يكون مستمداً من مواريث الأمة وثقافتها الأصيلة لتقيم عليه بناء حياتها الجديدة موصولة بماضيها، منطلقة إلى حاضرها ومستقبلها.
تتنوع مقالات الكتاب بإضاءتها على حقب مختلفة في عملية الإصلاح والتجديد. وتعرض لمختلف المذاهب والأيديولوجيات والإختلاف فيما بينها في الطرح وفي الوسيلة. نذكر منها: 1- الحجاب وفعاليات المرأة: ويعرض فيها الكاتب لأسباب ظهور الحجاب من منظور إسلامي، ومن منظور حضاري. ثم يبين حقوق المرأة في الإسلام. 2- خطوات على طريق الوحدة الإسلامية وفيه عرض لأول مجلس بلدي في الإسلام في أول مدينة إسلامية، 3- كيف نسوع شرعية أنظمتنا وفيه: قبول الآخر وثقافة الحوار، 4- الديمقراطية من داخل النظام الإسلامي. ونقرأ فيه مقارنة بين الإسلام والديمقراطية إلى آخر ذلك من موضوعات.
أما القسم الثاني من الكتاب فيعرض فيه الكاتب مقالة للأستاذ عبيد مدني عن "تحفة المحبين والأصحاب في معرفة ما للمدنيين من الأنساب"، مع ملاحظات نقدية على الكتاب.
