"قصة أخيرة على قمر أزرق" هي الرواية الثالثة للروائي البحريني أحمد جمعة بعد "بيضة القمر" و"قمر باريس" الروايات التي يجمعها نفس الأبطال والعوالم الروائية، حيث يرصد الروائي فيها تحولات المجتمع البحريني من خلال شخصية الشيخ "سيار" المركبة وعلاقاته النسائية المتعددة، بالإضافة إلى بروز شخصيات تنتمي إلى فئة الثراء والمال والنفوذ مثل "محفوظة" التي سيطرت على مجمل أحداث الجزء الأول وكانت بمثابة العائل للشيخ سيار ومن بعده الشيخ خلف وكذلك "نعوم" التي امتد أثرها إلى الجزء الثاني في "قمر باريسي" وصولاً لروايته الأخيرة "رقصة أخيرة على قمر أزرق"، والتي يفضح فيها هذه المرة سلوك النساء من الطبقة الثرية من خلال شخصية الشيخة "خلود كريشة" وعلاقتها مع "طويل العمر"، "حين كانت تدرب ذاتها ومشاعرها على كيفية تقبله كزوج دائم، إلى أن توصلت معه إلى إتفاق حددت بموجبه زواجها منه بالزواج الجزئي، بدوام جزئي يحررها من الإلتزام به ويحرره من مصيدة أسرته الحاكمة، ومن زواجه العائلي...".
وهكذا تشكل الحياة بالنسبة لهؤلاء العالم المرجعي الذي تحيل إليه الرواية وتمتح منه فضاءها وأحداثها وشخصياتها لترسم حياة موازية تزول فيها الحدود بين الواقع والفن، ويختلط الحقيقي بالمتخيل، وتأتي إشارة الروائي في مفتتح العمل (إعلان من المؤلف) كنوع من التقية الروائية من إقتحامه عوالم محظورة: [أحداث هذه الرواية من نسج الواقع الخيالي وأي تشابه في الأسماء والأماكن والوقائع فهو بمحض الصدفة...".
