في "زوجة العالم" انتقت المترجمة انعام الشريفي قصائد للشاعرة الإسكوتلندية "كارول آن دفي" بما يؤدي الغرض من تبيان لتجربتها الشعرية. وترصد جوانب من المدارس التي تأثرت بها (دفي) وحركات الشعر التي سبقها، فضلاً عن اساليبها الشعرية وشكل القصيدة التي تكتبها، فهي كتبت قصائد بالشعر الحر وأحياناً المقفى، وقصيدة "الملكة هيرود" من ديوان "زوجة العالم" يشبهها النقاد بدرجة كبيرة بالبنية الشعرية لقصيدة ت. س. إليوت "رحلة الماجاي"، إذ تحتفظ (دفي) بالإيقاع وبعض القواعد الشعرية وتبتعد عن الشعر المرسل، أما المونولوج الدرامي الذي اقتحمته (دفي) فتميز بحدود أنثوية قوية وحادة، وهذا يتجلى واضحاً كما ترى المترحمة في أولى مجموعاتها الشعرية "أنثى تقف عارية"و "بيع مانهاتن".
كذلك استغلت (دفي) أسلوب الساناتا القديم، وحلقت بها إلى تنوعات أخرجتها من إطار أغنية الحب الشكسبيرية المحملة ببعد فلسفي إلى أطر أوسع.... وقد خرجت أحياناً من بنية السوناتا المعهودة ونبذت بعضاً من قيودها لتوائم حالة التنوع في موضوعاتها.
