للعباس رضي الله عنه حضور يومي في حياة الملايين من الناس، وهو وسيلتهم في الحصول على الحوائج من الله تعالى، وقدوتهم في البحث عن الغايات، لقد كان بمفرده يمثل إمبراطورية الخير، في مواجهة عدوه الذي كان يمثل إمبراطورية الشر، لقد ضحّى بكفه حتى لا يضحي بكف الحقيقة وضحّى بعينه حتى لا يضحّي بعين البصيرة، وضحّى برأسه حتى لا يضحي براس الإيمان. مع حضور العباس في التاريخ أصبح للملحمة حجم أوسع مما كان لها، ومقاسات جديدة أكثر علوّاً وسمواً، وارتقاءاً، كان من علماء الزهّاد، ومن زهّاد العلماء، وتلك واحدة أخرى من فضائله، سبقته أعضاءه إلى الجنة، وتقطعت أوصاله، قبل أن تنقطع أنفاسه فأعطى لله تعالى يديه، ثم عينيه، ثم هامته وبتلك الشهادة المتميزة، تحول من شخص إلى شاخص، ومن مؤمن إلى رمز للإيمان، ومن بطل إلى رمز للبطولات، عندما كان العباس يلفظ آخر أنفاسه الذاكيات، كانت عينه السليمة تلاحق قطرات الماء التي أريقت من القربة، واختلطت بدمائه الطاهرة، وبدأت تغوص قليلاً قليلاً في رمال كربلاء، لتخط قصة واحدة من أعظم ملاحم البطولة والوفاء والإيثار، وينتقل العباس من جيل إلى جيل، ليس كتراث للإنسانية فحسب، بل كمنبه دائم لضمير البشرية كلما عصفت به أزمة المثل العليا، وعلى هذه الصفحات قصة العباس، قصة بطولة الروح وشجاعة السيف.
