إن السياحة هي إحدى الظواهر الإقتصادية الإجتماعية التي يتمثل فيها نوع من حركة الإنسان في المكان، فهي إحدى مجالات الجغرافية البشرية التي ينعكس فيها إرتباط الإنسان بالأرض، بعد ما أصبحت السياحة أحد المطالب والحقوق للإنسان في العصر الحديث، ولذلك على دارس جغرافية السياحة أن يراعي في دراسته أن صناعة السياحة تقوم على ثلاثة عناصر أساسية تتمثل في: أولاً: عامل الجذب في الموقع السياحي، ثانياً: وسائل وطرق النقل لنقل السياح، ثالثاً: أماكن لإيواء السياح؛ أي أن السياحة إنما تقوم على مقومات الجذب السياحي والخدمات السياحية.
ويأتي هذا الكتاب كجهد متواضع من الباحثين، كمساهمة في تزويد طلبة أقسام الجغرافيا في الجامعات الفلسطينية والعربية، وأقسام السياحة والآثار، بمادة علمية حول الجغرافيا السياحية مع نماذج وأمثلة وتطبيقات على فلسطين ودول عربية وأجنبية مختلفة.
واشتمل الكتاب على ستة فصول حيث ركز الفصل الأول على السياحة كظاهرة ومفهوم، وتطرق الفصل الثاني إلى تاريخ السياحة، والمراحل التاريخية لتطور ظاهرة السفر والسياحة، واشتمل الفصل الثالث على أنواع وأنماط السياحة بناءً على العديد من المتغيرات، بينما استحوذت الآثار الإقتصادية والإجتماعية للسياحة على الفصل الرابع: مع بيان خصائص صناعة السياحة، كما تم إستعراض بعض التأثيرات الناجمة عن صناعة السياحة على فلسطين وأقاليم أخرى في العالم.
وتطرق الفصل الخامس إلى عوامل الجذب السياحية الجغرافية الطبيعية والبشرية المؤثرة في السياحة، بينما تعرض الفصل السادس إلى النقل والخدمات وعلاقتهما بالسياحة، وأثر التطور في وسائل النقل على السياحة.
