تعد التجربة ظاهرة اجتماعية تخضع لما تخضع له الظواهر الأخرى في نموها وتطورها، انطلاقاً من هذا الفهم يتناول "عبد الرحمن الباني" موضوع التربية من كافة جوانيه التي تهتم بتنشئة الطفل من الناحية الجسمية والعقلية والخلقية، ويحلل عناصرها التي تقوم على الفطرة وتنمية المواهب للوصول إلى كمالها اللائق. مشدداً على أن التربية لا بد أن تستضيء بنور الشريعة الإلهية، والسير وفق أحكامها فهي عملية هادفة لها أغراضها وأهدافها وغايتها، ويأتي عمل المربي برأيه –تالٍ وتابع لخلق الله وإيجاده، كما أنه تابع لشرع الله وينه، وأحكامه.
وفي هذا السياق يبدأ المؤلف بـ معنى التربية من الناحية اللغوية (التربية بين اللغة والإصطلاح) ثم يورد للقارئ (آراء وأقوال في التربية من الشرق والغرب) ومنها للإمام الغزالي وابن قيم الجوزية. وجاك جان روسو ورونيه أوبير وآخرون. بعد ذلك يبحث في (طبيعة التربية) أهي علم أم صناعة؟ مرنة أم ثابتة؟ ثم يعالج موضوع (التربية والتعليم والفرق بينهما) أما (أسس التربية) فتشتمل على ثلاث: أساس اجتماعي وأساس فكري واساس نفسي، مع الشرح والتحليل، ويختتم الكتاب بـ (مقال) للمطالعة كتبه أحمد المربين –لم يورد اسمه- يساعد التأمل فيه على تفسير سلوك الأطفال. وعليه، يكون كتاب "مدخل إلى التربية في ضوء الإسلام" دليلاً مهماً للمربين والمعلمين والأسرة يضم مراحل العملية التربوية بالتدرج ويغني مقولاته بالأمثلة والشروحات المفيدة وكل ما يتصل بعملية التنشئة الإجتماعية للفرد في ميادين أخرى.
