تكشف قصائد الشاعر معتصم توفيق الخضر في مجموعته الموسومة بـ "انتصارات هابيل وهزيمة الطغاة" عن مشهدية شعرية تنهل من التاريخ القديم للإنسان وتعيد بناؤها في تاريخه الحديث، فالشعور بالظلم والقهر ينبثق لدى شاعرنا من وجع شعبه الفلسطيني الذي أرقه وأقضى مضجعه، وهذا ما يعرف بالتناص أو التوارد. ويتجلى هذا الشعور في جل قصائده التي يحاول فيها زرع بذرة الأمل لأبناء وطنه وهم يواجهون الظلم والجبروت. فهو ناقم على الطواغيت ويدين المتفرجين من هذه الأمة وكما يقول "إن أنوار الفجر تلوح ولا بد أن يعلن ميلاد الفجر" نقرأ له:
سعى الأعداء لا يأتون جهداً، لكسر إرادة الوطن السليب/ أنا المأسور في ألم ولكن، أرى فرجاً يلوح وعن قريب.
وعليه، فإن المتأمل في شعره يتلمس موقف الشاعر من قضية التي يتبناها بحس قوي، فهو يدافع عن الحق بكلام جلي لا يعرف المراوغة، وهو أيضاً يصور الحالة العربية المترهلة في أبيات واضحة الدلالة في معظم شعره.
يضم الديوان ستة وثلاثون قصيدة كتبها الشاعر قبل أكثر من ثلاثين عاماً ومنها ما كتب حديثاً تنوعت بين شعر التفعيلة وقصيدة النثر جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "حتمية زوال الطواغيت"، "قابيل في الحياة"، "معجزة البئر المهجورة"، "رفح لن تركع لن تقبل ذلاً"، رفح الصمود"، (...)الخ.
