وسمت الألفاظ الجنسية اللغة العربية بميسمها الواضح منذ البدء. فمن عبارة "وطأ الأرض" إلى عبارة "نصب خيمته" إلى كلمات مثل: الطويل، والغليظ الضخم، المفلوق، القبل والدبر، وغير ذلك، يتداخل القول المباشر بالمجاز والتشبيه بالاستعارة والكناية، فلا تعود تعرف من أحال على من؟
لقد استدعت كثافة الحياة الجنسية عند العرب في عصورهم كثرة الألفاظ الجنسية، إذ كانوا في كل عصر يضيفون إلى لغتهم الجنسية كثيراً من المفردات التي استجدت بفعل الحياة الجديدة التي وصلتهم بغيرهم من الشعوب.
ولما كان مؤلف هذا القاموس علي عبد الحليم حمزى يعتبر أن لغة الجنس ليست من المحرمات، كما يتوهم البعض، فالعربي ذكراً كان أم أنثى يصرح بألفاظ الجنس على مسمع من الآخرين، من دون مواربة ولا حياء، إذ لا حياء في اللغة كما لا حياء في الدين، فقد عكف على تجميع عدد ضخم من ألفاظ الجنس في هذا المعجم المخصص انطلاقاً من قراءاته في "لسان العرب" لابن منظور وفي "تاج العروس" للزبيدي وليصبح هذا القاموس بجهد مؤلفه هو أول قاموس عربي يتعرض لمجال لصيق إلى درجة كبيرة بحياة الناس وثقافتهم.
