هي قصة حياة جديرة بأن تستعاد وتقرأ، وتجربة أرادت الكاتبة نقلها إلى القارئ، ودعوة إلى المشاركة فيها، نكتشف بعد قراءتها أنها حبلى بحكايات مؤلمة، ومحكيات تبوح بآلامها، وذكريات من زمن آخر، فيها محطات بارزة تستدعي عن التوقف عندها، أظهرت من خلالها الكاتبة براعة في القص وبناء سيرة ذاتية فنية متماسكة اتسمت بتجربة ثقافية ومهنية غنية ومتنوعة.
من (المقدمة) التي تفتتح بها الكاتبة عملها نقرأ: "الربيع هو من دون أدنى شك الفصل الأكثر روعة في مدينتنا الألمانية ماينز - كاستيل، كنت جالسة في الحديثة وكان أحفادي يلعبون إلى جانبي، بينما كان أهلهم يتحدثون بصوت عال ويضحكون، تذكرت عبارة قلتها لأخي منذ سنتين: "الرفاهية لا تأتي أبداً من دون ألم أو معاناة أو ثمن... علينا أن نعمل بجدّ للوصول إلى أهدافنا... وكملكة تتربع على عرش البلادن وحولها أحفادها الأمراء والأميرات، عدت بالزمن إلى ماضٍ بعيد، إلى زمن كنت أنا فيه الحفيدة ألعب إلى جانب ملكة القلوب.... جدّتي أم خليل... هذه السيدة التي كانت أول من رأت عيناي... وأول من أحب قلبي.. أعادتني أصوات أحفادي إلى السابع والعشرين من يناير / كانون الثاني 1949، يوم ولادتي في بيروت".
ومن هنا، تبدأ الحكاية... حكاية امرأة من لبنان...
عندما ولدت، ظنوا أنها ماتت… لكنها لم تمت.
عندما هاجر أهلها وتركوها مريضة عند جدّتها أم خليل… لم تمت.
تعرّفت إلى والدها للمرة الأولى وبقربه تابوت، ظنّته سيكون تابوتها… لكنها لم تمت.
في غرفة العمليات، أول مرة…ثاني مرة… ولم تمت.
عاشت نجوى بقلوبها الكثيرة…
