يعد موضوع "السقيفة" الذي يدور البحث حوله في هذا الكتاب: من أهم الموضوعات وأبعدها أثراً في تاريخنا الإسلامي حيث تشابكت حوله آراء المؤرخين والباحثين العقائديين، وامتد فيها الجدل واسعاً بينهم... بإعتباره (فتنة) وقى الله المسلمين شرها - على حد قول بعض أطرافها - أو بإعتباره (إنقلاباً)، تطبيقاً لما جاء في قوله تعالى: ﴿أَفَإِنْ مَاتَ أَوْ قُتِلَ انْقَلَبْتُمْ عَلَى أَعْقَابِكُمْ﴾.
ولذلك كان لهذا الموضوع الخطير الذي عالجه الشيخ (الرضا) في كتابه الفريد المذكور آثاره وصداه البعيد في حينه، بحيث صار محوراً للنقد والتعليق ومثاراً للمناظرات.
إن هذا ونحوه دعانا بالفعل إلى العدول عن تحقيق فكرة المجمع هذه، مفضلين إعادة نشر الكتاب، ملحوقاً به الهامش المذكور وحده لما احتواه هذا الهامش من أسئلة وأجوبة قد تساعد كثيراً على توضيح وتعميق بعض مسائل الكتاب.
