تمتلك الأمّة الإسلامية أروع مبدأ وأضخم تراث عرفته الإنسانية في تاريخها الطويل؛ إنّه المبدأ الإسلامي والتراث الإسلامي الذي يحتوي على أفضل البرامج وأوسعها في جميع حقول الحياة، حتى أنّ الإنسان ليندهش كثيراً من ضخامة هذا التراث وثرائه، وإستيعابه لكلّ جوانب الحياة والنّشاط الإنساني، ولو أنّنا قمنا بجولة علمية في ربوع تراثنا العظيم لوجدنا فيه كلّ البرامج المطلوبة وفي جميع المجالات.
ولكن هذا التراث الضّخم العظيم يُعاني من عدّة مشاكل جعلته عاجزاً عن تلبية مطالب الأمّة في العصر الحديث، وبذلك حرمت الأجيال الجديدة من نعمة هذا التراث وثرائه؛ منها: إنّ التراث الإسلامي من حيث الصّياغة والأسلوب متأثّر بظروف نشأته وزمان إنتشاره، فهو بحاجة إلى التّجديد في الصّياغة وتحديث الأسلوب لعرضه في كلّ عصر بما يتلائم ومعطيات ذلك العصر، ومن ناحية الإعلام والنّشر يعاني تراثنا من فقر مدفع في هذا المجال.
لهذا يجب العودة إلى تراثنا الإسلامي ودراسته دراسة علمية جادّة، لنستخلص منه البرامج التي نحتاج إليها في مشوار الحياة، ويأتي في طليعة التراث الإسلامي كتاب "نهج البلاغة" الذي يحتوي على مجموعة رائعة من خطب ورسائل وكلمات الإمام أمير المؤمنين "علي بن أبي طالب" رضي الله عنه.
ورغم أنّ "نهج البلاغة" حظي بكثير من الإهتمام من قبل الشُّراح والمؤرِّخين، ولكنّه لم يزل في حاجة للدّراسة الموضوعية التي تستخرج منه رؤى متكاملة وبرامج مفصّلة، تملأ هذا الفراغ الخطير الذي تعاني منه أجيالنا، وتكون قادرة على توجيه الأمّة ودفعها في طريق التقدّم والإزدهار.
وهذا الكتاب هو مجموعة من المحاضرات أُلقيت على ثلّة من الشّباب والمثقّفين أثناء عطلة (1977م) في محاولة لدراسة "نهج البلاغة" دراسة موضوعية متكاملة.
