تُعد قضية التأويل من أهم القضايا التي شغلت الفكر الإسلامي ولا سيما عند المتكلمين، وتكمن أهمية هذه القضية في إرتباطها بمشكلة الصفات الإلهية، فمبحث الصفات الإلهية من أهم المباحث الكلامية على الإطلاق وأعظمها تشعباً وأكثرها مثاراً للخلاف بين الفرق المختلفة من مثبتين ونفاة.
وتأتي أهمية التأويل وإرتباطه بالنص الديني نتيجة لأن القرآن الكريم نزل باللغة العربية، واللغة العربية لها خصائصها المميزة، فهي غنية بما لها من خصائص في الحقيقة والمجاز، والترادف والأضداد والوجوه والنظائر، والخاص والعام، والإسداد والتقديم والتأخير، والمفصل والمجمل، إلى غير ذلك من الظواهر التي تهتم بها علوم اللغة والبلاغة، والنحو والنقد.
وجدير بالذكر أن مبحث الصفات الخبرية من أهم مباحث في مسألة صفات الله تعالى وذلك نظراً لإختلاف كثير من الفرق الإسلامية حول هذه الصفات كإثبات الوجه واليد والإستواء والعلو... إلخ من صفات خبرية أخبرنا بها الله سبحانه وتعالى في كتابه الكريم ولا دخل للعقل في إثبات هذه الصفات ومن ثم سميت صفات خبرية لأن طريق إثباتها إنما هو الخبر المجرد ولا دخل للعقل في إثباتها لهذا كَثُر النزاع فيها بين المسلمين.
وسيقتصر المؤلف هنا على دراسة تأويل الصفات الخبرية عند الإمام الرازي والإمام ابن تيمية وذلك لما حظيت به الصفات الخبرية من تأويلات متعددة بالإضافة إلى أن أكثر التأويلات الواردة في مسألة الصفات تتعلق بها.
ويرجع إختيار المؤلف لدراسة التأويل عند هذين العَالميِن أن الأول يمثل الإتجاه الأشعري والثاني يمثل الإتجاه السلفي.
