ومن أجل هذا كله أعجب به الكثيرون من معاصيره ومن أعقبهم من رجال الحكم، كما أعجب به أصحاب المصنفات الأدبية والتاريخية والبلدانية فأكثروا في الاقتباس من خطبه وأقواله وأخباره، وهذا ما حفّز الدكتور يونس السامرائي إلى العناية بهذا الأديب اللامع، والخطيب المصنف كثرة تردد اسمه وأقواله وخطبه وأخباره ونوادره في المظان المختلفة، فعمد إلى الكتابة فيه وأحياء ذكره من خلال دراسة حياته وجمع ما تناشر من أقواله وخطبه وأخباره في المصادر المختلفة وتحقيقه تحقيقاً علمياً في هذا الكتاب.
