المقصود الأول، في هذا الكتاب، يتميز عن الرمزي والمتخيل، عن الحدسي والإيمانوي. إنه القول الفلسفي، إنه العقل، أو الذهن، أو الفكر. وهنا الفلسفة، والمقال المفهومي أو الأفهومي، وهو النظرانية. هو المحضانية، والعلم الأتم أو المعرفة بالأعمي والأشملي طباقياً وقطاعياً.
أدناه، يأتي العقل أداة معرفة، ومنهجاً، ورؤية. ولذلك فهو يختلف عن العادة أو الغريزة، العاطفة أو الانفعال، الانتباه أو المعتقدة، التكلم أو الوعي أو الذاكرة، المزاج كما الطبع. ليس يعاد هذا العقل إلى ملكة أوة قوة من تلك القوى النفسية، لكنه يستلزمها جميعها، يحتاجها، ويتغاذى معها بتكامل وتضافر. وبذلك فالعقل، والذي هو الفكر والحداثة والنقد، موضوع نفساني، بل هو غرض أساسي لعلم النفس. وفوق ذلك يكون علم النفس أيضاً علم الأحداث النفسية، علم الحالات النفسية من حيث هي معنية بالوعي معاً وبالسلوك قائمين في حقل اجتماعي تاريخي وطبيعي (فيزيائي وبيولوجي/حياوي).
والمقصود الثاني هو، في هذا الكتاب، معاينة تشخص، وتحاكم، وتطرح خطة أو أفكار حول العلاج: تشخص بمعنى أنها تصف الظواهر أو الأعراض كما المستويات والغوريات، اللاسوي والمعيوش، الواعي واللاواعي، والمعاينة تحاكم أي هي تعرف وتنتقد، تكتشف الأسباب وتفسر كما قد تفهم أو تؤول...، أما خطوة اقتراح علاج، أي إعادة ضبط أو إعادة تأهيل، فهي خطوة العودة بالفكر إلى الواقع ومقترحات التعاون بين التلاؤم والتكيف: بين الحركة من الذات إلى الوسط الطبيعي أو المجتمعي، والحركة من الوسط أو الخارج إلى الداخل والفياوي.
يحتاج لهذا الكتاب الطبيب النفسي، والمعالج النفسي، وميدان علم النفس العيادي، ذاك لأنه يشخص وقد يلمح إلى إمكان وشروط المعالجة والإشفاء لحالات مرضية أو لاختلالات واضطرابات على صعيد الشخصية كما على صعيد المجتمع والجماعة، وحتى على صعيد الفكر نفسه واللغة كما الأيديولوجيا والنحناوية.
ويحتاج إليه تظر المعالج النفسي نظراً إيجابياً أو استشارة علاجية تكون فيها تلك العينة (الماء) موصوفة كوسيلة قابلة لأن تبث الارتياح والهدوء النفسي عند عصابي أو متمأزق أو مكتئب، وكحالة اضطرابية تستلزم الاستراخاء (را: العلاج النفسي قديماً بحمامات الماء). وفي اختصار، ولعدم جدوى التفصيل والاستنفاد، يحتاج -أيضاً ولربما كثيراً- المحلل النفسي، وميدان علم الرمز وعلم التأويل وعلم الحلم، إلى قراءة الحالات النفسية المرتبطة، كما سنرى أدناه، بالماء والعطش والنبع...
