مقالات باسل، في هذا الكتاب، أي قصصه، لا تراوح بين منطقة أسلوبيّة أو أخرى، إنّه يجترح ملامح أسلوبيّته بذاته، يقدّمها وفق مسار يحتكم إلى لغة رشيقة متهادية، تنساب بين اليدين بتهذيب، جارحةٍ إلى حدّ أنّها تحلم بالحرّيّة ذات النصل الحادّ، فتكتبها دون مبالاة بما سيتطلّبه ذلك من أثمان.
ومن دون أيّ إلتباس خلع على بطل قصصه المتخيّل، أو مقالاته - كما يحلو له تسميتها - اسم (فرج)، وفرج هذا لا يتوقّف عن السؤال، ولا يمرّ يوم من دون أن يتعرّض للظلم، ظلم مؤسسات تسمّي نفسها شعوباً ومجتمعات، وقلّما نجده خارج القضبان حتّى في أحلامه.
ثمّة سجن يحفظه من التطاول على تخيّل الحرّيّة، لكنّ فرج لا يتوقّف عند ذمار القبيلة إلاّ ليخرج على تعاليمها غير آبه بتشريعاتها البالية وقوانينها الّتي تنصف الفاسدين واللصوص والمستبدّين والقتلة فقط، ولا تنصفه.
ما يكتبه باسل ليس ترفاً، ولا نصاً يمارس عبره الإختلاء بنفسه، ثمّ الظهور على سطح شاشة لامعة ليقدّم لنا ذاته كاتباً ساخراً كما يفعل بعضهم؛ على العكس، يكتب وفي ذهنه أنّ ما يكتبه لن يؤخّر في قدوم ما يحلم به كثيراً، فهو بارع في الإنتظار والصبر، طويل النفَسِ، نلمح ذلك في دقّته العجيبة حين نقف أمام جملته المحكمة إنّه يكتب الممنوع، والمسكوت عنه، والصمت المدوّي.
