يستعرض هذا الكتاب العادات والتقاليد السائدة في مدينة النجف الأشرف حيث عرف الفصل الأول بمدينة النجف من حيث تسميتها، وجغرافيتها وتأريخها والناحية العملية والأديبة والاقتصادية والسياسية فيها بشكل موجزاً جداً، خشية الإسهاب. وبحث الفصل الثاني أبرز أعياد النجف، ومجمل ممارسات أبناء البلدة وتناول الفصل الثالث، الزواج والولادة والختان، وقدمت له بنماذج من عادات الشعوب في نفس الغرض. وتعرض لما يجري في البلدة قديماً وحديثاً بخصوص الموضوع، أما الفصل الرابع: فكان عن المآتم، وكيف تواجه الشعوب هذا الحادث. وما هي إجراءاتها وفصل سلوكية أبناء النجف تجاه الحادث، وما يجري قديماً وحديثاً سواء بين صفوف الرجال أو النساء.
وتناول الفصل الخامس أزياء أبناء النجف، وأثر البنية الاجتماعية على اختلاف الأزياء، وأثر الأزياء على السلوك العام. وخصص الفصل السادس لتسالي أبناء البلدة، وتحت هذا العنوان تحدث عن ألعاب الأطفال القديمة والحديثة. وعن المسليات التي كان ينشدها الكبار وأوضح ما للبيئة الجغرافية والاجتماعية من أثر في تسالي السكان، وألعابهم.
وتحدثت في الفصل السابع عن الشعائر والممارسات الدينية في النجف، وختم البحث بالفصل الثامن الذي جمع العادات والتقاليد التي لك يكن بالإمكان إدراجها ضمن الفصول الأخرى الشائعة.
