يضم هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه مجموعة قصصية متنوعة لعدد من الكتاب العرب، تتناول في مضمونها محاكاةً أدبية للمجتمع الإنساني بصورته الاجتماعية وبالتركيبة الأسرية له، من كون الأب والأم هما عمادي الأسرة فلا أسرة إلا بهما.
ولما كانت المرأة نصف المجتمع، وهي النقطة المركزية التي تلتقي وتتقاطع معها مفردات الأسرة الأخرى كالأب والأخ والعشيق أو غيرها، سردت هذه المجموعة القصصية، من وجهة نظر نسوية، بمعنى أن الراوي لهذه القصص كان يروي بصوت المرأة سواء بصوت المرأة الأم، أو العاشقة أو الأخت أو بصورها الإنسانية الأخرى.
فقد تعاملت القصص مع المرأة وقدمت للقارئ مكانتها في إطار الحرج الواقعة به، من حيث المجتمع الأخلاقي المغلق عليها، لا سيما المجتمع العربي أو من خلال الانفتاح وحرية التعبير المتاحتين لها، ومن خلال أشكال الاتصال الأخرى كافة مع الآخر.
