يضم هذا الكتاب دراسة متأنية وجادة في أصول الأدب المقارن تنطلق من مفهوم التأثير أنموذجاً، وتقتصر على المبادلات الشعرية، لتكون محصورة ضمن هذين الطرفين، وهي في خمسة فصول مترابطة، ركّز الدارس على مفهوم التأثير وتجلياته نظرياً في الفصل الأول، والتفت إلى مجالاته تطبيقياً في الفصول الأربعة الأخرى، والهدف من وراء ذلك بيان الإئتلاف والإختلاف وامتداداتهما ضمن هذا المفهوم، حتى إن الإختلاف يتجلى في الترجمات الشعرية لقصيدة واحدة، فتتجه إلى أساليب نصيّة مختلفة، صحيح أنها تترسّم مسار النّص المهاجر، ولكنّها تتصل في الوقت ذاته بتراث المتلقّي وأسلوبه الشعري، ليكون التأثير شرارة إنتاجية إبداعية بعيدة عن التقليد والتبعية.
