إزداد الإهتمام بالبحث العلمي في العالم العربي خلال العقود القليلة المنصرمة ونستطيع القول بأن عقد السبعينيات من القرن العشرين كان البداية، نتيجة لتزايد المشكلات التي واجهتها المجتمعات العربية آنذاك في مختلف ميادين الحياة المتمثلة بالتخلف الثقافي وتفشي الجهل والأمية وضعف البني الإرتكازية التي يعتمد عليها الإقتصاد في كل دولة، فضلاً عن توسع طموحات المجتمعات في النمو والتطور والتحرر والإستقلال، وأدركت الجامعات أهميته في التنمية الشاملة واعتمدته مادة علمية تُدَرَّس في كلياتها ومعاهدها لمختلف الإختصاصات، وأصبح مقرراً دراسياً مهماً، يسهم في البناء العقلي لصقل شخصية الباحث وتنمية تفكيره للمساهمة في إثراء المعرفة العلمية من خلال إجراء الأبحاث العلمية لبناء مهاراته البحثية وتطوير قدراته الفكرية في الإتجاهات التي تخدم مسيرة التحول النوعي الذي يشهده عالمنا العربي، وفتح مراكز جديدة للبحث العلمي مع إعطاء مساحة أكبر للإهتمام بإنتقاء الأساتذة الأكفاء الذين لديهم خبرة جيدة في تدريس منهجية البحث العلمي.
إن حاجتنا إلى الدراسات والأبحاث العلمية تزداد بشكل مضاعف خلال هذه المدة، لأنها تمثل نقلة نوعية ومرحلة جديدة على درجة كبيرة من الأهمية، في ظل ثورة المعلومات والإتصالات والتقدم التكنولوجي التي فتحت آفاقاً واسعة أمام الإنسانية عموماً والإنسان العربي خصوصاً، فالعلم في سباق لا مثيل له للحصول على أكبر قدر ممكن من المعارف العلمية التي تكفل بناء المجتمعات وتقدمها، وخير وسيلة لرفاهية الشعوب وتطورها وبناء مستقبلها.
