هذه مذكرات الأمير عثمان دقنة عن نشاطه ووقائعه منذ أن حل بشرق السودان في رمضان سنة 1300هـ/1881م حتى محرم سنة 1302هـ/تشرين الأول سنة 1884م. تتكون المذكرات من ثلاثة خطابات متفاوتة في الطول وفي الأهمية أيضاً. والخطاب الأول هو أولها وأهمها لأنه يورد وصف أهم الوقائع بين الأنصار وبين القوات المصرية والإنكليزية فضلاً عن أنه يورد تفصيلات رحلة عثمان دقنة وطوافه من أول دخوله الشرق حتى بلوغه أطراف سنكات ويذكر الشخصيات التي قابلها والاستقبال الذي لقيه.
وهذا الطرف مهم للغاية لأنه يكشف بداية المهدية في أرض الشرق بعد التمهيدات الأولية. والخطاب الثاني، وهو أقل طولاً من الأول، موضوعه هو الصراع بين عثمان دقنة والعمارار. والخطاب الثالث يتعرف إلى العمارار وإلى حوادث كسلا وحوادث سواكن بعد الذي كان في الخطابين السالفين.
