هذا مدخل نقدي لدراسة الفلسفة، آثر فيه المؤلف الإيجاز والتركيز، وعمد إلى أمهات القضايا الفلسفية، فألقى عليها ضوءاً تحليلياً نقدياً كاشفاً، ولم يأبه بالتفاصيل والتعريفات الجزئية، حرصاً على عدم تشتيت أذهان القراء، وعلى عدم الإطالة.
هذا، وقد حرص على أن يجعل الفلاسفة والمفكرين يتحدثون إلى القراء بأنفسهم، فلم يحدث نيابة عنهم، وسيجد القارئ مادة ضافية من أقوالهم الأصلية التي تشكل أسس مذاهبهم.
وكتب فصلين عن الفكر المصري القديم، والفكر الصيني القديم، حتى يتجاوز عملياً المقولة -التي روجها مؤرخو الفلسفة الغربيون، وحذا حذوهم فيها معظم دارسي الفلسفة في الشرق- والتي تزعم أن الفلسفة والفكر قد ولدا في الغرب.. في بلاد الإغريق، وبالتحديد على يد طاليس الملطى في القرن السادس ق.م.
وربط بين المذاهب الفلسفية الغربية المعاصرة، والظروف الغربية المحلية التي أفرزتها... وكشف عن العلاقة (الجدلية) بين هذه الفلسفات والحضارة الغربية الراهنة، فهذه الحضارة تشكل الصيغة العملية المعبرة -أتم تعبير- عن هذه المذاهب الفلسفية التي قامت عليها وقامت بها.
كما عني -غاية العناية- بعرض الأفكار والآراء والمذاهب الفلسفية كما ذكرها أصحابها دون تحيز، ثم نقدها نقداً موضوعياً منهجياً، مبيناً الإيجابيات والسلبيات معاً، معولاً على كشف الظروف الموضوعية التي أثمرتها وأنضجتها.
