فإنَّ أهل الحديث هم أمُناء السُّنة النبوية المُشرَّفة لحفظهم لها وتبيانهم لما جاء فيها، وقد اعتبرهم الإمام أَحمد بن حنبل وغيره الطائفة المنصورة الذين لولاهم لما وجدنا السنن؛ وذلك لعدم اعتماد بقية الفرق عليها أو الإِستناد إليها في كثير من مبادئ اتجاهاتهم، وذكر ابن أبي شيبة أَنَّ فأهل الحديث خيرٌ من عابد غيرهم؛ أي من الفرق والملل الأُخرى. وكان الإمام الشافعي يقول: "عليكم بأَهل الحديث؛ فإنَّهم أكثر الناس صواباً".
وهذا الكتاب -بفضل الله تعالى- يُبيِّن لنا ببحوثه المُبسَّطة بعض علوم الحديث وما يتعلق بمصطلحه وأصُوله، مما يُوضَّح جهد المحدثين في تأَصيل هذا العلم وتقعيد قواعده على أسس متينة لا توجد عند غيرهم.
