هذا المجموع، وهو سلسلة من المتون الفقهية للأقدم من الإمامية، وهي تتألف من كتاب (المقنع) و(الهداية) و(إملاء في وصف دين امامية على الإيجاز والاختصار) كلها للشيخ أبي جعفر الصدوق، محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن بابويه القمي. وثمرة هذه الكتب أنها الأصل والأساس للفقه الإمامي، وهي الحلقات الرابطة بين لاحقها وسابقها، ومصنفها من أعيان الفقهاء وأئمة الفقه والحديث، إليه تنتهي علوم من تأخر عنه، وكان قريب عهد بأئمة أهل البيت عليهم السلام، وقد بلغه ما لم يبلغ غيره من الأئمة، وشاهد من آثارهم ما لم يشاهده المتأخرون، وهو لا يتجاوز في الأغلب موارد النصوص، ولا ألفاظها، فما صدر عنه من الفتيا يليق بأن ينظر إليه الفقيه بغير نظره إلى فتيا غيره وهو يقول في كتابه الأول "ثم أني صنفت كتابي هذا، وسميته كتاب المقنع لقنوع من يقرأ بما فيه، وحذفت الإسناد منه لئلا يثقل حمله ولا يصعب حفظه ولا يمل قارئه، إذ كان ما أبينه فيه في الكتب الأصولية موجوداً مبيناً على المشايخ العلماء الفقهاء الثقات" أما كتابه الثاني فإن ما يظهر من واضع من الكتاب إن ما فيه متن الحديث، وقد ذكر جملة منها فراجع، هذا وإن المتتبع في الأخبار إذا عرض المقنع عليها يجد ألفاظها موافقة لها ولا يرتاب في اتحادها.
وأما كتابه الثالث "الهداية"، فذكره غير واحد في كتب الصدوف، وقال في آخر فصل عدد الأنبياء والأوحياء في رسالة الاعتقادات. "وقد أخرجت هذا الفصل من كتاب الهداية" وهذا الكتاب، بعد الفقيه والمقنع أكبر متن فقهي للصدوق، ويمتاز عنهما بأن في أوله أبواباً في الاعتقادات وتوافق ألفاظها في الأغلب.
