أراد الكاتب أن يكتب فيما قُرّر وسمع وحفظ بالتفصيل ذكراً لأسماء العلماء المعروفين ومدة عمرهم وزمان ولادتهم ووفاتهم وتأليفاتهم وأسانيدهم ومشايخهم في الإجازة وتلامذتهم وذكر من لم يكن عنده إجازة . ومحادثة بعضهم مع بعض ومناظراتهم وأحوالهم مع ملوك عصرهم ، وفطرتهم وزهدهم وذكاءهم وتقواهم ونقاءهم ونهجهم في السعي وتحصيلهم وكرامة أصحاب الكرامات وأسميته كتاب " قصص العلماء " . والمأمول أن يكون مفيداً للخواص والعوام المفيدين والمستفيدين وطلاب العلم والزهد وأن يُذكر إسمهم السامي في قنوت صلاة الوتر ويطلب لهم المغفرة حتى تفيض أرواحهم العالية وتكون معينة في التحصيل وطريق العبادة .
وقد كتب هذا الفقير سابقاً رسالة على حده في كرامات العلماء . وفي الحقيقة إن ذكر كرامات العلماء سبب للوثوق واليقين بكرامات ومعجزات الأئمة والأنبياء . وقد ذكرت في كتاب تذكرة العلماء أسماء العلماء الأعلام بترتيب حروف الهجاء مثلما ذكر أهل علم الرجال أسامي الرجال بترتيب حروف الهجاء . لكنني في هذا الكتاب ذكرت اسماء العلماء حسب ترتيب الإجازات والأعصار . وجعلت العلامات على حساب أبجد هوز .
