يعرض المؤلف جملة وافية من أدب ابن المقفع كما هو مثبت في آثاره، وأشار فيها إلى جملة من الكلمات أوردها حسب حروف المعجم، وفي جملة هذه الكلمات فوائد خاصة أشار إليها معتمداً على المأثور الفصيح القديم، فيذكر المادة أولاً ثم يذكر الجملة التي وردت فيها مما قاله ابن المقفع، ثم يقوم بالتعليق عليها وبيان خصوصيتها.
