وإذا ما عدنا لمتن هذا الكتاب لوجدنا أنه عبارة عن شرح وضعه مؤلفه على "غاية الاختصار" للأصفهاني، محللاً ألفاظه وموضحاً معانيه وما جاء فيها من مسائل فقهية وأحكام شرعية، مورداً على ذلك الأدلة الشرعية وأقوال أصحاب المذهب الشافعي
غاية الاختصار مختصر وجيز في فروع الشافعية، وقد قام الإمام الحصني الشافعي بشرحه وحل عقده بهذا الكتاب الذي أسماه كفاية الأخيار، وقد تميّز شرحه هذا بوضوح الأسلوب وسلاسة العبارة، بعيداً عن الأطناب الممل في الشرح، مما جعله مرجعاً مهماً في الفقه الشافعي لا يستغنى عنه طالب العالم.
