هذا الكتاب عرف بالعلوم الإسلامية التي تدرس في مراكز التعليم، وما مرت به من أطوار، وما أصاب كتب المتأخرين التي تدرّس من تعقيد بلغ حد الألغاز، ومماحكات لفظية لا يخرج منها طالب العم بطائل، انتقد المناهج التعليمية وأساليب التعليم السائدة في مراكز التعليم في العالم الإسلامي، وما أصابها من قصور أدى الى تضييع ثمرتها، وضع تصوراً لإصلاح التعليم يقوم على ما يلي: 1- العلوم كالصنائع تحتاج الى ملكة ومهارة - 2- التركيز على ثمرة العلوم وأثرها في المجتمع - 3- الاهتمام بالعلوم النافعة في الدنيا والآخرة، بيّن واجبات المعلم والمتعلم.
اما المعلم فهي: 1- التدرج مع المتعلم حسب استعداده: فيبدأ بالتقريب والإجمال، ثم بالشرح والتفصيل، ثم بالإحاطة والاستيعاب - 2- عدم الخروج عن المقرر إلا لضرورة - 3- انتظام الدروس.
أما واجبات المتعلم فهي: 1- أن يتعلم من العلوم ما تقبله نفسه ويميل اليه طبعه - 2- أن يخلص في طلب العلم - 3- أن ياخذ العلم عن معلم راشد ناصح أمين - 4- ألا يشتغل بعلمين في وقت واحد مع مراعاة تدرج العلوم، المؤلف بما له من تجربة واسعة في التعليم والتأليف والتحقيق وما أضافته رحلاته الى مراكز التعليم في العالم الإسلامي من خبرة وضع هذه التجربة بين أيدي القائمين على التعليم لعلهم يجدوا فيها ما ينفع الأمة في مستقبلها.
