يتناول الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته سيرة الإمام أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه ودوره في حركة الإسلام التاريخية بين أيدي المسلمين. وقد قسم المؤلف دراسته هذه إلى أقسام ثلاثة: تناول في القسم الأول منها سيرة أمير المؤمنين رضي الله عنه في عهد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وعهد الخلفاء والراشدين الذين سبقوه تاريخياً في قيادة المسلمين.
وفي القسم الثاني انصب البحث على دراسة الإمام علي رضي الله عنه أيام توليه خلاف المسلمين، ومواقفه البطولية النبيلة، في مجالات السياسة، والإدارة، والاقتصاد، والاجتماع، وشؤون الحرب والسلم وأمثال ذلك. وتخصص القسم الثالث في إبراز الملامح الأساسية لشخصية أمير المؤمنين رضي الله عنه من حيث علاقته بالله تعالى وعلاقته بالناس من حوله وعطائه العقائدي، والعلمي، والفكري، الذي أسداه للأمة الإسلامية والناس أجمعين.
