في جديدها الشعري "صيد الحياة" تعزف ليلى عساف على أوتار الوطن، تلتقط مشاهد وحكايات، وترسم لكل منها مسارها المتعثر ومصيرها الفاجع شعراً، حتى تبدو لكل قصيدة حكايتها الخاصة، تحمل في داخلها مأساتها، ونهايتها، يظللها مناخ مأساوي حزين عمره من عمر الحرب اللبنانية.
تبدأ الشاعرة كتابها بموشور نصي عنونته بـ ["مشاهد حرب": مشاهد مسروقة من حرب تموز (13 تموز 2006) شكلتها مجموعة قصائد ربطتها بخصلة موج تغطيها كرجاء أخي]. وقد وزعت الشاعرة قصائد على (64) مشهداً، وختمت بـ (7) نصوص نثرية متنوعة في ثيماتها ومراميها التي تقترب من حياة الإنسان وقضاياه الإنسانية في هذا العالم. تقول الشاعرة: [حياة تلتهمنا.. دون أن تشبع.. أما أنا.. ألبريَة دائماً.. أحتفي بسقوطي من سلم الخيبات.. أعمل على السير.. إليها... ألف سنةٍ أخرى]. وهكذا تبدو القصائد وكأنها تؤكد حضور الذاتي الوجداني الفعلي المعاش في ترسيخ مهيمنات الزمن والفكر والعاطفة والعقل، والمناورة بين هذه المقتربات الذهنية والحسية وجعلها جسور توصل إلى المعنى الحقيقي لـ "صيد الحياة".
من عناوين الكتاب نذكر: في وصف طاغية، في الزنزانة، الحرية، الكرسي، وطني...الخ.
