في هذا الكتاب أوراق يذكر فيها المصنف ما تيسر له الإطلاع عليه من كتب تواريخ الإسلام، فيما يتعلق بفضائل دمشق وغيرها من أرض الشام وفضائل جامعها المعظم، وما اشتمل عليه من الأعلام، وكيفية إنشائه ووضعه على أحسن منوال وأتم نظام، ويذكر فيها بعض من مات ودفن بأرض الشام من الصحابة الكرام، ومن بعدهم من التابعين، والعلماء العاملين، إلى غير ذلك مما اشتملت عليه دمشق من الآثار المكرّمة، والبقاع الشريفة، وما يقع بدمشق في آخر الزمان عند نزول عيسى بن مريم عليهما السلام، وقتل الأعور الدجال، ومن معه من أتباعه اللئام.
وهي مشتملة على ستة أبواب: الباب الأول: في ذكر الشام، وما ورد في فضائلها على الخصوص. الباب الثاني: في ذكر دمشق، وما ورد في فضائلها على الخصوص، الباب الثالث: في فضل جامع دمشق، ما اشتمل عليه من المآثر والمفاخر والمحاسن، برق بها على أمثاله من الأوائل والأواخر. الباب الرابع: في ذكر بعض من توفى ودفن بأرض الشام من الأنبياء عليهم الصلاة والسلام. ثم من الصحابة والتابعين، والعلماء والأولياء الكرم الذين اشتهرت كرامتهم بين الأنام.
الباب الخامس: في ذكر بعض ما اشتملت عليه دمشق من البقاع والآثار الشريفة. الباب السادس: في ذكر ما يقع بدمشق في أخر الزمان من نزول عيسى بن مريم عليهما السلام، ثم خروج الدجال وما يأتي به من الكفر والزور والبهتان،، ثم هلاكه وهلاك أتباعه على وجه لمي يخطر ببال إنسان.
وبالنظر لأهمية هذا الكتاب فقد اعتنى "عبد العزيز فياض" بتحقيقه، فاعتنى بنسخ مخطوطة الظاهرة وبضبطتها وبمقارنتها مع الأزهرية، من ثم قام بتخريج الأخبار والأشعار وبالترجمة للرجال، وأفرد لكل شخصية ترجمة مستقلة وخصص لكل منها رقماً خاصاً، وشرح الكلمات الصعبة التي تحتاج إلى شرح بالرجوع إلى معاجم اللغة، وأسماء البلدان والأماكن ورتب الأبواب والفصول إلى قسمين: للتخريج ثم للتعريف بالأعلام، فخرج الأحاديث والآيات القرآنية من مصادرها، فرجع إلى عدد كبير من المصادر والمراجع بغية الإحاطة بكل أخبار من ترجم لهم من الأعلام، وميز الآيات القرآنية بقوسين وأثبت في الحاشية اسم السورة ورقم الآية.
