يدور موضوع هذا الكتاب حول محاور أربعة تتخلص في الآتي:
1- دراسة تستند على المشاهدة والنقل عن كبار السن حول مجتمعات الجزيرة العربية في أزمنة العوز والحاجة، وانتشار الأمية، وقسوة الظروف الطبيعية، وضعف الإمكانيات المتوفرة لدى الناس لمغالبة تلك الظروف وتسخيرها؛ غير أن الحاجة كما قيل: أم الاختراع، فجدوا واجتهدوا كل في مجال معرفته حتى تحقق لهم التكامل في مجتمعاتهم والحصول على لقمة العيش والبقاء على قيد الحياة. 2- التعرف على مادرجت عليه تلك المجتمعات من عادات وتقاليد بعضها سيئ وبعضها طيب. 3- تسليط الضوء على مجتمعات ما بعد استخراج النفط وما تحقق عنه من تحديث وتحسن في الدخل، وماترتب على ذلك من ايجابيات وسلبيات. 4- تقديم بعض المقترحات للدعوة الى التمسك بالعادات الطيبة التي درج عليها الآباء والأجداد، ونبذ العادات السيئة المتمثلة في الكسل وضعف الطموح والتسابق في تبني كثير من العادات السيئة المستوردة من المجتمعات ذات النفوذ الكبير والزهد في كثير من العادت الطيبة الموروثة.
