إزدادت مؤخراً الإهتمامات العالمية بالإقتصاديات ذات السرعة المتنامية في شرق قارة آسيا، وخصوصاً الإقتصادين الصيني والياباني، فوسائل الإعلام ومراكز الأبحاث العالمية ودوائر صنع القرار السياسي في الغرب عامة وفي الولايات المتحدة خاصة، بدأت التركيز أكثر على تحليل توجهات الإقتصاديات الآسيوية، ضماناً لحماية إقتصادياتها في أسواق المنافسة العالمية.
أما الولايات المتحدة فلها مخاوفها الخاصة، من نمو إقتصادي متسارع للصين قد يسخّر لتطوير البنى التحتية العسكرية والتكنولوجية للصين، الأمر الذي يشير إلى أن هناك، منافساً إستراتيجياً للولايات المتحدة قد يظهر على الساحة العالمية في قارة آسيا خلال المستقبل المنظور، ويعمل على تغيّير بنيّة النظام الدولي من نظام أُحادي القطبية إلى نظام ثنائي أو متعدد القطبية.
فيما يخص اليابان، فبسبب ظروفها السياسية وعلاقاتها الإستراتيجية المتميّزة مع الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، فإن الغرب ينظر إلى اليابان كمنافس إقتصادي وتكنولوجي عالمي، بسبب إمتلاكها لثاني أقوى إقتصاد في العالم بعد الولايات المتحدة الأميركية.
