يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن "أخبار سقوط غرناطة" تماماً كما سبق وتحدث "لسان الدين الخطيب" عن "الإحاطة في أخبار غرناطة". وقد أنهى مؤلف الكتاب "ايرفينغ" جمع كتابه هذا من مخطوطات "آغابيدا" و"الأوسكاريال" الأخرى التي ذكرها في مقدمته عام 1826م بعد أن سكن أيضاً في قصر الحمراء.
ومن خلال هذا الكتاب سيجد القارئ الإجابة عن كثير من الأسئلة التي تتبادر إلى ذهن العربي بشأن الاندلس مثالها: لماذا فتح العرب الأندلس وهل كان فتحها امتثالاً لإرادة الجهاد أم لأسباب لا علاقة لها بالدين؟ ولماذا فتحت الأندلس على يد الأنصار وكانوا آخر من أخرج منها؟ وما هو معنى استمرار التهجير في الحروب العرقية التي بدأت منذ الأندلس؟
يجيب هذا الكتاب على هذه الأسئلة وسواها عبر إسقاطات مماثلة على واقعنا التاريخي المعاصر مستعيناً بأدق المراجع التاريخية التي جمعها المفكر الكاتب واشنطن ايرفنغ من المصادر اللاتينية والتي تولى الدكتور هاني يحيى نصري مقارنتها بالمصادر العربية وتدقيقها من الناحيتين التاريخية والاجتماعية، لكي يوفر للقارئ صورة واضحة عن واقع العرب في الأندلس، وكيف خسروا تلك الامبراطورية.
