ليست مذكرات الرصافي غير تسجيل لجلسات خاصة انطلق الشاعر فيها بحرية القول وخرج عن التزمت المعروف عند الرواد, وفيها صراحة القول في ذكريات عفا عليها الزمن ولم يبق منها إلا وميض الأمل في الحياة ولذة ذكر ما مر منها. شغل الرصافي الناس وبخاصة المفكرين والساسة بتمرده وثورته وغرابة تصرفاته وتناقض أعماله والشذوذ الظاهر في أسلوب حياته. فهو بين محب شديد في الحب وعدو يتمنى القضاء عليه, ومع هذا فقد كان يتمتع بالاحترام والتقدير. وكان من أهم ما تناوله الكتاب من مواضيع: معروف الرصافي وسيرته الذاتية, الرصافي يتحدث, الرصافي يعود الى العراق, الرصافي يسجل ذكرياته ومشاهداته عن بغداد.
