يدور موضوع الكتاب حول أنساب آل البيت، وسلسلة النسب العلوي ويتحدث عن نسب (آل باعلوي باليمن) حيث يتتبع مؤلفه كل أنساب آل باعلوي وتفرعاتهم سواء في اليمن أو الهند والصومال والحبشة والحجاز وأندونيسيا، ويفند بالتفصيل كل سلاسل أنسابهم وأعقابهم، ونسب كل جد من هؤلاء الأجداد كلٍ إلى جذره، حيث اعتنى مؤلفه بالفروع والأصول بالإضافة إلى تعليله لأنساب الحسينين بالمغرب وكيف انتقل هذا الفرع من الحجاز إلى المغرب استجابة لرغبة الناس في ذلك البلد في التقرب لآل البيت.
أما أصل الكتاب فهو مخطوطة تتألف من (16) ورقة وبحسب المحقق فإن أصلها محفوظ عند السادة الوخائية بالقاهرة، "وهذه المخطوطة كانت محفوظة في مكتبة الأحقاف باليمن الجنوبي مجموعة الحسين رقم (24) أنساب بتريم، وصورها معهد المخطوطات التابع لجامعة الدول العربية بالقاهرة سنة 1396هـ/ 1976م).
