في كتابه هذا يقدم الناقد العراقي "علاء هاشم مناف" دراسة نقدية تتضمن تحليلاً معمقاً ودقيقاً لمجموعة "أدونيس" (أغاني مهيار الدمشقي "1961") تشكل في مجموعها هذا التحول في رمز اللامنتمي عند أدونيس. "ومهيار الدمشقي، هو الإجابة الدقيقة للذات المتصورة، وهذا الإسم، هو مدلول لساني يقع في أداة تعريف، حدودها خصائص اسم ينسب إلى "مهيار بن مرزوية الديلمي "360- 428هـ" الذي عاش في بغداد ومات بها، أما نسبة هذه الخاصية الشعرية المعنية في شخصية "مهيار الدمشقي" فتعود إلى شخصية "علي أحمد سعيد أدونيس" 1930 السوري الدمشقي...".
يمثل هذان الشاعران "الديلمي والدمشقي" التمرد على عصرهما أو ما يمكن اعتباره حالة التمرد واللا انتماء للذات المعنية "فكان الإنتماء، للصوت الآتي من الوجود الذي يفترض فيه أن يكون صورة المسند الذي يؤكد اللاوجود الإحالي في عالمٍ لم يكن موجوداً أصلاً".
وما بين دفتي الكتاب يناقش علاء هاشم مناف مجموع التقسيمات التي وردت في ديوان أدونيس وهي سبعة: "1-فارس الكلمات الغربية، 2- ساحر الغبار، 3- ألإله الميت، 4- إرم ذات العماد، 5- الزمان الصغير، 6- طرف العالم، 7- الموت، المعاد".
وعن عمله هذا يقول الكاتب "لقد تشكل النص الشعري في ديوان مهيار الدمشقي من أكوان وشخصيات إسطورية تم إنتزاعها من خواصها التاريخية وتم تشكيلها وفق خطابات بنيوية عرفت طرقها إلى التماسك بعد المحاولات في معرفة الرموز الدلالية في مواجهة الإنساق، وهكذا إرتسمت الملامح في شخصية الإنسان المعاصر بعد تشخيص ملامح الأنموذج البنيوي في معالجة ظواهر الأزمة التي يعاني منها الإنسان المعاصر...".
وفي ختام الدراسة يعتبر الكاتب أن "... مهيار في هذه الخلاصة هو الإله الخالق لكل شيء والمتجدد وهو السوبرمان الذي لا يموت لكنه يؤمن بالموت وينفي الجذب وهو سلطان الرياح الذي يبعث الخصب وأن خلاص العالم حسب فلفسة أدونيس على يد الشاعر وهو الذي يبدأ الرحلة الأولى في سفر التكوين الأول".
