تكلم الجيلي، العارف بالله، في كتابه هذا عن الحق سبحانه وتعالى من حيث أسماؤه أولاً إذ هي الدالة عليه، ثم من حيث أوصافه لتنوع كمال الذات فيها، ولأنها أول ظاهر في مجالي الحق سبحانه وتعالى ولا بعد الصفات في الظهور إلا الذات، فهي بهذا الاعتبار أعلى مرتبة من الاسم، ثم يتكلم من حيث ذاته على حسب ما حملته العبارة الكونية، وكان لا بد للمؤلف من التنزل في الكلام على قدر العبارة المصطلحة عند الصوفية، ويجعل موضع الحاجة فيها موشحاً بين الكلام ليسهل فهمه على الناظر فيه، وينبه على أسرار لم يضعها واضع علم في كتاب من أمر ما يتعلق بمعرفة الحق تعالى ومعرفة العالم الملكي والملكوتي، موضحاً به ألغاز الموجود كاشفاً به الرمز المعقود، سالكاً في ذلك طريقه بين الكتم والإفشاء، مترجماً به عن النثر والإنشاء.
