ازدادت نسبة الإصابة بالأمراض، مع ازدياد تعقيدات الحياة الحديثة، وتعقدت مع ذلك وسائل وأساليب العلاج، وأخذ الإنسان يبتعد رويداً رويداً عن كل ما هو طبيعي سواء في الغذاء، أو الدواء، واعتمد كلياً على ما تنتجه مصانع الدواء من عقاقير ومواد كيمياوية لا تخلو هي الأخرى من مضار وآثار سلبية على الجسم. ومن جانب آخر ظهرت بعض الدعوات هنا وهناك مطالبة الإنسان بالعودة إلى الطبيعة إن هو أراد أن يحيا حياة سعيدة، خالية من المتاعب، وقد بدأ هذا الاتجاه يجد له صدى عميقاً عند معظم الناس الذين أعيتهم الحيلة ولم يجدوا علاجاً لأمرضهم في ما نتيجة وسائل الحضارة الحديثة.
وهذا الكتاب يكشف عن ارتباط الإنسان وكيانه الصحي بالطبيعة، والكيان الصحي مرتبط بالجسد الذي ينتمي إلى أنظمة الطبيعة. ومن هذه الأنظمة عرف الإنسان المرض والعلاج الذي تمثل بما يسمى بالطب الطبيعي الذي يشكل بدوره عنصراً من عناصر هذا الكتاب الذي لا يدعي مؤلفه أن يقدم وصفة كاملة للتخلص من الأمراض. لكنه يعتقد أن الإنسان يجب أن يحاول تعديل مسار حياته إلى الاتجاه الأكثر ملاءمة مع نظم الطبيعة بالتناسق مع ما يطمح إليه من تطور علمي واجتماعي، وإن عليه أن يعيد النظر في أسلوب حياته وبالأمور التي نشأ عليها واكتسبها اجتماعياً وثقافياً وعلمياً، ليحيا حياة سعيدة ينعم فيها بالصحة والنشاط.
