هذا الكتاب يشمل دراسة طولية عن الموهوبين قامت بها الدكتورة جوان فريمان البريطانية الجنسية. تعرضت فيه لمفهوم الموهبة في مراحل تطور هذا المفهوم والعوامل التي ساهمت في إثرائه وتقدمه من أبحاث ودراسات مختلفة كذلك تطرقت فيه إلى مشكلات الموهوبين المتعددة من مثل النزاعات الأسرية وتحيز المعلمين للطلاب الأثرياء والذين ينتمون إلى أسر ثرية ولها مكانة اجتماعية في المجتمع وإلى مشكلات الرفاق والتحيز على أساس العرق والطبقة الاجتماعية واللكنة اللغوية أي اختلاف اللهجة والهروب من المدرسة وإلى سوء أوضاعهم المعيشية وإلى ساعات الدراسة الطويلة وإلى المسافات الطويلة التي قد تبدأ من الساعة الثامنة وتستمر دراستهم وواجباتهم حتى الساعة الثانية صباحاً وتطرقت فيه إلى طرق دراستهم وأثر الذاكرة عليها وإلى أساليب تعليمهم من مثل الإثراء والإغناء الدراسي وإلى التسريع أو القفز وسيئاته حيث يجب أن يكون الخيار الأخير للعمل به. وكذلك تطرقت فيه إلى الاختبارات والفحوص الدراسية وفحوص القبول في الجامعة من مثل فحص الثاني عشر وتطرقت فيه إلى التحديات التي تواجه الموهوبين في الحياة بشكل عام.
وإني لأعترف بأن الكتاب ثمرة جهد مضنٍ قامت به المؤلفة وثمرة جهد مضنٍ قام به المترجم بما احتواه الكتاب من مفردات غريبة ومن تشبيهات وخيال واسع لديها. ويعتبر الكتاب مرجعاً مهماً في مجال التربية الخاصة وأنه يثري المكتبة العربية لما احتواه من معلومات قيمة تهم طلاب الإرشاد النفسي وطلاب التربية الخاصة في الجامعات.
