القراءات جمع قراءة. والقراءة هي الكيفية التي تؤدي بها كلمات القرآن العظيم، وفق لهجة عربية صحت عن الرسول (صلى الله عليه وسلم)، منسوبة إلى ناقلها. وللقرآن الكريم قراءات متعددة، بتعدد اللهجات العربية الفصيحة التي أمر الله تعالى فيه عليه الصلاة والسلام أن يقرئ أمته عليها. وفي أواخر القرن الأول للهجرة خشي العلماء أن يتسرب إلى لغة القرآن شيء من اللهجات الغريبة، عن طريق الجماير المختلفة الأجناس التي اعتنقت الإسلام، فأسسوا للقراءات علماً يصونها من كل غريب ويحفظها من أي وهن "فكان علم القراءات الذي هو مجموع قواعد، وضعت لتعرف بها كيفية النطق بالكلمات القرآنية وما فيها من أوجه مشروعة، وناقل كل قراءة ووجه، وما إلى ذلك مما يميز بعضها من بعض، علماً وعملاً. وقد تم حصر الإقراء في رجال عرفوا بغزارة العلم، وملازمة التقوى والورع، وجودة النقل، ودقة الضبط، ومتانة السند. وهم سبعة مقرئين، بلغت شهرة قراءاتهم الأوج. وألحق بهم ثلاثة أخر، توفرت فيهم المميزات لكنهم من الشهرة في درجة أقل، فصار الجميع عشرة، أطلق عليهم (البدور). وفي هذا الكتاب بحث يتناول فيه المؤلف مسائل في علم القراءات، تفيد التالين كتاب الله تعالى والمتعلمين والمعلمين، وترشد الراغبين إلى ما تيسر من كيفية تجويده، واتقان ترتيله، تكون مستخلصة مما قرر في رواية الإمام (قالون) عن شيخه (نافع بن عبد الرحمن المدني) شيخ المقرئين في زمنه بمسجد النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) والواصلة إلينا من طريق (أبي نشط) أحد تلاميذ (قالون)، وقد اعتمد المؤلف في البداية على ما تلقاه علماً أو تطبيقاً، عن شيخيه (الطاهر دربال)، و(الطار الجزية) سالكاً المنهج التالي: 1-التمهيد لكل بحث بمقدمة، يلمح فيها إلى بعض خصائصه، أو إشارة إلى شيء من غوامضه، أو ذكر ما يخفف من عقده، ليهيء الذهن لقبوله وفهمه، 2-تفصيل المسائل، ترتيب يشار إليه، إما برقم، إما بأحد الحروف الأبجدية حسبما يقتضيه المقام، 3-مراعاة لمن يريد الإلمام الإجمالي ثم إلحاق المباحث الأساسية بخلاصة.
