كان من أعظم اهتمامات أئمة أهل البيت عليه السلام وضع قواعد الإستنباط الفقهي وأصول الفقه وبيان المنهج الصحيح للإجتهاد في مواجهة تيار الإجتهاد بالرأي الذي يخرج عن دائرة الكتاب والسنّة. كما حرص الأئمة عليهم السلام على بيان اصول (المنهج النقدي) في دراسة السنّة لاعتمادها في استنباط الأحكام. فقد ورد عن الإمام الصادق عليه السلام، قال "قلت لأبي عبد الله عليه السلام إذا جاء حديث عن أولكم وحديث عن آخركم بأيما نأخذ؟ فقال: خذوا به حتى يبلغكم عن الحي، فإن بلغكم عن الحي فخذوا بقوله (أصول الكافي)".
ولعل كتاب (المقدمات والتنبيهات في شرح أصول الفقه" لمؤلفه الشيخ محمد قانصو الشهابي العاملي، فيه ما يؤكد "أن علم الأصول لم يولد بصورة كاملة، بل تخلق طوراً بعد طور، حسب حاجة عملية الإستنباط إلى المنهجية والتنظيم البحثي" وبكلام آخر يعرض الكتاب موقف أئمة أهل البيت من علم الفقه، وعملية الإستنباط والإجتهاد الفقهي بوجه عام، والأحكام النسبية المرحلية كحالات معينة من قبيل (سهم المؤلفة قلوبهم) على بعض الآراء الفقهية، ما يعني أن الشريعة ليست قوالب جامدة كما أنها ليست أحكاماً نهائية، كما أنها ليست أحكاماً محدودة بجيل أو عصر أو مكان أو مجال من مجالات حياة الإنسان، بل هي منهج عام لحياة البشر في جميع أبعادها على مدى تاريخ البشرية. ومن هنا تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب الذي يقوم مؤلفه بشرح (أصول الفقه) وتبسيطها لإيصال المطالب الأصولية وفهمها في إطارها الشرعي، ولا سيما القواعد العامة التي يستبط منها الأحكام الجزئية وتطبق على الحالات الإنسانية الراهنة.
