محمد بن إسحاق بن يسار المطلبي بالولاء، المدني: من أقدم مؤرخي العرب ، من أهل المدينة.
له (السيرة النبوية - ط) هذبها ابن هشام.
ومن الأصل أجزاء مخطوطة كتبت سنة 506 هـ، في خزانة القرويين بفاس و (كتاب الخلفاء) و (كتاب المبدأ).
وكان قدريا، ومن حفاظ الحديث.
زار الإسكندرية سنة 119 هـ ، وسكن بغداد فمات فيها، ودفن بمقبرة الخيزران أم الرشيد.
وكان جده يسار من سبي عين التمر.

كتاب جمع فيه مؤلف ما نُقل في بطون الكتب من تفسير الإمام محمد بن إسحاق المطلبي صاحب السيرة، والذي كان موسوعي الثقافة، مبرّزاً في الحديث والمغازي والسِّيَر والتاريخ، وهو لم يذكر فيه تفسيراً لجيمع الآيات إنما فقط ما تحصل عليه مما فسّره ابن إسحاق، ورتّب الكتاب حسب سور القرآن الكريم وآياته.
