يضم هذا الكتاب، بجزئيه، بحثاً له أكثر من اعتبار، فإنه يعتبر من أوائل البحوث المجازة من لجنة جامعية عليا بقسم السنة وعلومها في موضوع علل الحديث، وذلك على مستوى جامعات المملكة العربية السعودية. وإن هذه الرسالة من خلال تداولها، ستذلل أمام الباحثين كثير من صعاب البحث في موضوعها، وهو الاختلاف على الرواة وتأثيره في إعلال الحديث. وقد اختار الباحث عبد الله بن محمد حسن مرويات الإمام محمد بن مسلم بن شهاب الزهري التي أوردها الدارقطني في كتابه ميداناً لهذه الدراسة. وقد كانت دراسته محصورة في الأحاديث التي أوردها الدارقطني، وصرح فيها بالاختلاف على الزهري، دون التي كان الاختلاف فيها على من دونه، أو التي ذكر فيها الزهري على سبيل الوهم، أو التي لم يصرح فيها الدارقطني بالاختلاف على الزهري. واقتصر على خمسين ومائة حديث راعى أن تكون شاملة لجميع أنواع العلل التي طرأت على مرويات الزهري في كتاب الدارقطني، إضافة إلى حديثين آخرين نسب فيهما الوهم إلى الزهري، ألحقهما الباحث بهذه الدراسة، لمعرفة وجه الحق فيما نسب إليه.
