إن الإرث الذي خلفه السلف إرث عظيم، يحق لمن ورثها أن يعتز بها، وواجب عليه أن يحافظ عليها. وقد حاول الباحث في هذا الكتاب أن ينال حظه من هذا الإرث ويحفظه من الضياع ويبعث هذه المأثرة المتمثلة في هذه المصنفات في "مشيخة أبي طاهر ابن أبي الصقر" و"معجم مشايخ أبي عبد الله الرقاق" و"مجلس املاء" لأبي عبد الله الرقاق.
وكان منهجه في التحقيق كالتالي: 1-نسخ المخطوطة نسخاً مطابقاً للأصل المنقولة منه، 2-الترجمة لشيوخ المصنف، وبيان حالهم من الجرح أو التعديل، 3-الاهتمام بإثبات ترجمة المتأخرين، والتهاون في ذلك مع المتقدمين من رجال (التهذيب) ونحوهم، 4-التزام إثبات ترجمة الراوي الذي أعلى به الحديث، لأنه سَنَدُ إعلاله ودليل تضعيفه، 5-تخريج الأحاديث تخريجاً مختصراً يفي بالمقصود، 6-إثبات السماعات الأصلية الستة، 7-فهارس وكشافات، الآيات، الأحاديث، الأعلام. وقد قدم لها المصنف بفصلين الأول ترجمة المؤلف والثاني دراسة المشيخة.
