إن من أجلّ العلوم تفقهاً في دين الله تعالى؛ هو علم "أصول الفقه" الذي جمع بين المعقول والمنقول. وقد صنف فيه الكثير، وما زال التصنيف في هذا العلم مستمراً إلى يومنا هذا. وموضوع هذا الكتاب ثمرة من ثمرات هذا العلم الجليل وهي رسالة علمية قيمة نال مؤلفها الدكتور علي بن سعد بن صالح الضويحي درجة الدكتوراه بامتياز مع مرتبة الشرف الأولى. وموضوع هذه الرسالة فيه تجديد وفتح آفاق في الكتابة في هذا العلم. والموضوع هو "آراء المعتزلة الأصولية دراسة وتقويماً" حيث وضّحَ الباحث آراء المعتزلة وبيّن أصول هذه الآراء، كيف استخرجت والأصل لكل رأي، وهذا موضوع لم يُطْرق من قبل. ومنهجه في البحث هذا منهج متميز، ويعتبر فريداً في ابتكاره وتناوله فهو "دراسة أصولية مقارنة" وإن المقارنة في دراسة أصول الفقه تعتبر ابتكاراً ومنهجاً جديداً، لا يستطيعه ولا يخوض غماره إلا من تمكن من دراسة علم الأصول دراسة عميقة متأنية ببصيرة واعية.
