ما زال الكلام على الجماليات في الأدب والفلسفة والفنّ يخضع للمزيد من النقاشات التي تدور حول إشكاليته الكبرى في حسبانه علماً أو غير ذلك، وهي إشكالية تمتد لتهيمن على فكر الباحثين، خصوصاً في الفلسفة التي انقسم أصحابها بين من راح يضع القوانين، وبين من حسب أن الجمال نسبيّ يختلف من إنسان إلى آخر... فثمة من يرى أنّ مشهداً ما جميلاً وثمة من لا يراه كذلك، ما دام يخضع للنفس المتغيّرة والذوق المختلف، لكنّ القول: إنّ هناك بعض الثوابت التي لا بدّ منها في الشيء الجميل...
بينما أثر العرب القدماء اللجوء إلى الأساليب الجمالية المختلفة، ويضعون للشيء الجميل والأسلوب الجمالي منطلقات تطال كلاً من الشيء الجميل نفسه وطرق التعبير عنه والألفاظ والجمل التي تميّزه عن سواه.
جاءت دراسة الدكتور علي أحمد الأحمد: "جماليات المكان في شعر محمّد كامل شعيب العاملي" نوعاً من التطبيق لمجمل الآراء التي قيلت حول موضوع الجمال، وإن جنحت إلى القبول بالمصطلح الذي اقترحته، لمثل هذه الدراسات وهو "الأسلوب الجمالي في الأدب".
واعتقد أن هذا النوع من الدراسات قليل في نقدنا الأدب العربي، وأنّ وُجدَ حديثاً فإن وجوده ما زال يمتح من الدراسات الغربية في منهجه وإستقصاءاته الجمالية، لكنّ ذلك لم يمنع من وجود دراسات جمالية عربية خطت بإتجاه التميّز خطوات جديدة، تستفيد مما تجمّع من هذه الدراسات، لتشقّ نهجاً خاصاً بها.
ولقد أحسن علي أحمد الأحمد عندما ثبّت جهاز الكشف ليستطيع الوقوف في الداخل؛ داخل المكان وداخل الشاعر، ونظر إليه من الخارج في جزئيته وكليته، حتى توصّل إلى الكشف عن نهج العاملي الجمالي الذي لا يبتعد كثيراً من النقد الجمالي العربي القديم، حيث كان يرى أنّ الأدب الجميل، ليس شكلاً فنياً وحسب، بل إنه كان شكل فنّي بمضمون فنّي أيضاً... يشكلان وحدة تحتفظ بتنوّعها المنسجم مع الكل.
